"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth...but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven." (Matthew 6:19-20)
Treasures on earth we're familiar with. But what are treasures in heaven? What does "treasures in heaven" even mean?
❓ Is there a department of treasury in heaven?
❓ Is there currency or coin?
❓ Is there an account where I can store heavenly treasures?
❓ Just what are treasures in heaven anyway?
Being a startup founder takes a lot of work. Sometimes I wonder if I'm spending too much time focusing on laying up for myself treasures upon earth, rather than heaven.
My mother turned 80 this week. She was the youngest of four children, pictured below.
Her parents, DeOrr and Verna Sorensen, were salt-of-the-earth people.
When my grandmother Verna died in 1994 she didn't have many possessions. My grandparents lived in a rented home and had few belongings. No money in the bank.
And yet, they were some of the richest people I knew.
They were rich in relationships.
Beloved by their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Their neighbors, fellow church members and friends.
To me, THEY are MY treasures in heaven!I know that, whenever it's time for me to move on, they will be waiting there for me with open arms. And, just as they are MY treasures, I am THEIR treasure, as are so many other people they loved and served during their earthly sojourn.
💰 The way I see it, relationships are the currency of heaven.
🙏 I've tried hard to build good relationships. Haven't been 100% successful. But in the end I am grateful for EVERYONE with whom I have crossed paths or walked paths on life's journey.
